What is a Transport Network?
Transport Networks enable the long distance connectivity between multiple PoPs and form a critical part of the network, facilitating both network expansion and, in the event of an outage, multiple levels of resilience.
Traditionally, signals are multiplexed and transmitted between PoPs in order to provide an efficient and reliable service, however this requires expensive and resource-hungry active platforms which often increase latency due to their complexity.
By utilizing WTC as the medium for PoP-to-PoP connectivity, network operators are able to avoid the need for multiplexing signals by enhancing fiber capacity, meaning less active equipment is required in each PoP and therefore reducing overall CAPEX and OPEX for service delivery and network expansion, not to mention improving overall latency.
The increase in fiber capacity also offers additional benefits such as access to new revenue streams and enabling cost deferment longer term.
