What is a Metro network?
Historically, Metro Networks have enabled service delivery to a local population or region and act as the conduit from a local Point of Presence (PoP) out to the ‘last mile’ of a service area.
In the past, these Metro Networks were service specific (xDSL or POTS for example), however advances in fiber, the emergence of IP routing and the increase in IoT demand have driven the development of a new concept – the Multi Service Metro Network.
Fujikura is a proud innovator within this area with products like our Wrapping Tube Cable (WTC) and Hybrid Aggregation Nodes enabling multiple pathways for network migration and convergence, allowing operators to maximize asset utilization and defer CAPEX investment for an extended time period.
The exponential increase in fiber density offered by WTC, coupled with scalable Hybrid Aggregation Nodes, enables the operator to develop long-term strategies for investment and architecture previously not considered, as well as opening new revenue streams such as Dark Fiber and Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) opportunities.
