What is FTTx?
Optical fiber is used in the feeder or core sections of many networks to improve the performance of the network without replacing existing non-fiber last mile connections. Instead, the ‘last mile’ continues to be delivered by existing technologies such as twisted pair copper, co-axial cable or Cat V/VI Ethernet cable.
In such cases, optical fiber is terminated at an existing aggregation point in the network and is used to carry consolidated traffic between the aggregation point and a central office. There are many variants of these networks and many different aggregation points – hence the term Fiber To The X (FTTX).
With decades of experience in this sector, Fujikura is one of the world’s leading suppliers of innovative fiber optic technology designed specifically for deployment in FTTH networks.
